City Council
The Oakland City Council exercises the powers of the City subject to the limitations in the City Charter. The City Council has no administrative powers. I am responsible for implementing the City Council Rules of Procedure, chairing regular and special meetings of the City Council, and appointing Council committees and chairpersons of committees (subject to approval by a majority of the council).

The procedural committee of the City council is known as the Rules comittee. This committee is responsible for scheduling items for hearing by other standing committees as well as makin recommendations to the Council regarding endorsing or opposing propositions, monitoring pertinent state, federal and local legislative activities, and submitting an annual legislative agenda to the Council.

Meeting Schedule
The City Council meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month, at 6pm with ceremonial items.

The Rules Committee meets each Thursday at 10:45 am. All other committees meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month, at various times. The basic schedule can be found here and the full schedule with agendas is here.
